When you live in an area that is prone to regular flooding, such as Florida, it can be easy to fall into the trap of thinking that if you have recently experienced a flood, it won’t happen again for a while. Unfortunately floods can happen at any time and being prepared is by far the easiest option. The best preparation you can have is taking out FL flood insurance.

When you live in an area that is under repeated threat of flooding, it is also a good idea to assemble an emergency kit and keep it in a handy place. Here are some items to consider including in your kit:

  • Personal medical supplies including glasses, medications and hygiene products.
  • Blankets, sleeping bags and a change of clothing.
  • Anything essential for your pet or children.
  • Small amounts of food and bottled water.
  • Torch, batteries and matches.
  • First aid kit.
  • When your property is isolated carry a radio and whistle to attract attention if needed.

Being prepared by having these items already assembled should help you avoid a last minute panic. You can access information on emergency supplies you should need and find online brochures at www.ready.gov. Having your FL flood insurance coverage up to date and annually reviewed is another thing you should never be complacent about.
